Alison Balsom - Trumpet

Alison Balsom performs on a range of instruments including natural and piccolo trumpets, in repertoire from Albinoni to Zimmerman and new commissions. Alison has appeared at major venues and festivals throughout Europe and beyond. Recent concert highlights include her BBC proms debut with the Autralisan Chamber Orchestra, the Barcian's Mostly Mozart Festival with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, the Munich Chamber Orchestra with Christoph Poppen, and the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra with Sir Roger Norrington.

Alison has also appeared with the Philharmonia, Bournmouth Symphony, English National Opera, Irish Chamber and Ulster Orchestras, the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, London Chamber orchestra and the Parley of Instruments. She has given concerts at Symphony Hall Birmingham, the Wigmore Hall, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Usher Hall Edinburgh and toured in Argentina.

Alison studied trumpet at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Paris Conservatoire, and continues her studies with Haken Hardenberger. In 1998 she was a concerto finalist in the BBC Young Musicians competition and in 2000 she won the prize for the 'Most beautiful sound' at the Maurice André International Trumpet Competition in Paris. She was represented by the Young Concert Artists Trust from 2001-4.

An exclusive EMI Classics artist, Alison's debut CD was released in 2002. Her next disc will be available in early 2006. She has also recorded with Crispian Steele-Perkins for Hyperion Records. Alison is currently a member of BBC Radio 3's New Generation Artists scheme.
